Gilda Cheregi (Upper Division - ICT)

GildaGilda earned a Master’s of Science in Education from CUNY Hunter College. Her dream and biggest wish was to become an educator, because of her passion and love of children thinking that this way she will be able to make a difference in her students' lives. Gilda worked with people all her life first as a Counselor in a Cancer Institute and as a Teacher in her former country Romania. She likes to be among people and particularly students hoping to be helpful all the time.

Gilda considers herself an experienced traveler; she has visited many countries all around the world since her College Degree is Philosophy and Anthropology, learning a lot about different customs and cultures. She speaks four languages and considers each culture a privilege to know about. She would like to bring new strategies and a breath of fresh air into the classroom. She loves being a New Yorker since she experienced the hardship of Communism in her former country where she grew up. Throughout her career Gilda studied in three languages, Hungarian, Romanian and English.

Gilda appreciates all the opportunities that this wonderful city provides her with and she loves to live here in this melting pot where cultures and customs are living in peace and harmony.

She hopes that one day she will be able to visit Rome and the Colosseum. Other favorite activities after traveling are: swimming, dancing, playing soccer and cooking for her family.

Gilda is also an avid reader, and she had many favorite authors like: Alexandre Duma, Jane Austen, Philippa Gregory, Laurence Yep, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Leo Tolstoy, Ernest Hemingway, Charles Dickens, J.K.Rowling and William Shakespeare.

Family is very important for Gilda, so in her spare time she loves to be surrounded by her family.

As a teacher Gilda believes that kindness is the most valuable treasure which helps people communicate and help each other while living in harmony. If people are kind they are also respectful which brings harmony and safety in the classrooms and schools. She considers that students have to feel safe and respected all the time. This is very important since in her opinion each student is an explorer and they have to feel safe to express their ideas. She likes to listen to new ideas from students and coworkers and she likes to melt those in her lessons.
